Himandhoo is situated in the far western part of the Maldives, bordering the open ocean. Thanks to its location, it is an excellent destination for fishing and diving. During underwater exploration, lucky divers might encounter hammerhead sharks. Occasionally, whale sharks also visit the area. Majestic manta rays are a constant presence in the waters around Himandhoo, as several well-known cleaning stations are nearby. At these stations, mantas receive cleaning services from cleaner fish and other symbiotic marine creatures.
Various excursions are organized from Himandhoo, including a range of fishing activities—from casual evening fishing to sport and big-game fishing. Successful anglers often catch giants like wahoo, tuna, or sailfish. Excursions to resort islands such as Athuruga, Ellaidhoo, and Bathala are also available.
The island has a population of around 900 residents, many of whom are engaged in fishing or work in the tourism sector. Himandhoo's locals are friendly and welcoming, always happy to greet visitors. The island offers several shops and cafes, a school, a pharmacy, and a medical center. The tourist beach is located on the western side, where you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets. In the evenings, at the pier on a small bridge over the canal, you can often spot stingrays and nurse sharks swimming by.
