In the Maldives, manta rays are widespread, but due to their large size, they usually don't swim in depths shallower than 4-5 meters. They live in specific areas abundant with small aquatic organisms, which form their diet. The locals are well aware of manta habitats, and they often organize tours for tourists to observe these majestic sea creatures from a boat or even swim alongside them.
Since mantas are found in all regions of the Maldives, it’s possible to view them from almost any island. The journey to their habitats typically takes between 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the island’s location. Be sure to bring cameras, and if you have one, an underwater camera, as the experience of seeing manta rays up close is truly remarkable.
