Maalhos (Alif Alif)

Maalos Island in the Alif Alif Atoll (North Ari) is a hidden gem for underwater enthusiasts and beach snorkeling.

Maalhos is a small, quiet island located between the islands of Feridhoo and Himandhoo, with a population of around 800 residents, though only about 400 live there permanently. This green island is home to friendly locals who, untouched by the excesses of tourism, primarily engage in fishing or work at nearby resorts.

Maalhos Island is relatively peaceful, with little traffic and well-maintained streets adorned with tropical plants. The beach is small yet beautiful, and its appearance changes with the seasons. Surrounding the island are several sandy shallows, and a picturesque uninhabited island, Embudu, is just a short boat ride away, perfect for excursions.

The highlight of Maalhos Island is its stunning house reef, rich with colorful corals that create a true coral garden, serving as a habitat for a diverse array of marine life. While snorkeling from the shore, you may encounter turtles, rays, and various species of sharks, as well as a vibrant assortment of tropical fish in all colors and shades.

Currently, the island is not widely known to tourists; it has only a couple of operational guesthouses, making it an ideal destination for those who value tranquility, seclusion, and an authentic atmosphere.
